I love getting out and about with my best friend and I love a good coffee! My dog also loves to go (almost) anywhere with me. She is well socialised and "cafe trained" - please only take your well-behaved dogs to our cafes. One local cafe has recently reversed their dog-friendly policy due to owners letting dogs bother customers and, believe it or not, not cleaning up after them. (If you need help with that, there are several fabulous dog trainers who can help you). Once your dog is nicely socialised and trained, there are many great dog-friendly cafes in Albany to enjoy.
Unfortunately, I have found only one with a limited doggy menu, so I bring a little chew treat with me for my dog to munch while I enjoy my coffee. Hopefully our cafes will catch up with doggy menus soon, perhaps purchasing locally made treats from Emma's Mobile Pet Care!
Although the first 3 cafes on my list were definitely bumped up to the top due to beautiful water views, the coffee at these cafes is also great! Their location also offers lovely walks for before or after your coffee, so you can combine a walk with your coffee stop.
Here are my top 10 dog friendly cafes in Albany.
Hazbeanz
5d Toll Place, Albany
Doggy menu: Yes! This is the only cafe I have found with something for our pooches to munch on while we drink coffee. They usually have a couple of flavours of hand-made dog biscuits at the counter.
Water bowl: Sometimes.
Ordering: Dog allowed at order window.
Right on the waterfront, Hazbeanz is a gorgeous place to stop for a coffee. Hazbeanz has all outside seating, with undercover options as well as spacious tables on the lawn. It is not the place for large meals or fine dining, but they have a nice selection of cakes and pastries both sweet and savoury. This is also a great cafe to stop at either before or after a walk, with paths going out along the jetty and into Anzac Peace Park, down to the boatshed with a little beach area, or even over the bridge into town.
Three Anchors
2 Flinders Pde, Middleton Beach.
Doggy menu: No.
Water bowl: Yes.
Ordering: QR code for menu and ordering at tables.
Three Anchors is another beautiful location for a coffee stop, right on the beach at Ellen Cove. There is plenty of outside seating with a small wall dividing the cafe seating from a busy pathway. High end menu for breakfast and lunch, with a large selection of top quality cakes also on offer. Three Anchors probably offers one of the best walks in town for before or after your coffee, with the boardwalk following the coastline all the way in to town. This is an excellent walk during whale watching season. Dogs are not permitted on the beach at Ellen Cove, however a short walk down past the Big 4 Tourist Park and you can take dogs for a good run on the beach there.
Emu Point Cafe
1 Mermaid Ave, Emu Point.

Doggy menu: No.
Water bowl: Yes.
Ordering: QR code on table for menu and ordering.
Emu Point Cafe, located in the most idyllic place in Albany, is often very crowded over summer. There are several outside tables on the balcony suitable for dogs, however there are also several picnic tables and bench seats to sit with a takeaway coffee and enjoy the views. Dogs are not permitted on the beach near the cafe, or in the playground area, however a short walk down towards the boat ramps and there is a small section of beach where dogs are permitted. This dog beach has lovely shallow water and minimal waves for the less confident swimmers.
Gourmandise
56 Stirling Tce, Albany.
Doggy menu: No.
Water bowl: Yes.
Ordering: Customers need to go inside to order, leaving dog outside.
Gourmandise is a charming French-themed bakery/patisserie on one of the main streets in town. Outside seating is spaced well, with a couple of undercover tables. The bench seating along the window has hooks to attach dog leads to. Gourmandise is the perfect stop for a little french pastry!
Dome
70 Albany Hwy, Albany.
Doggy menu: No.
Water bowl: No.
Ordering: Customers need to order inside.
Dome is a Western Australian icon, with cafes all throughout the state. The menu offers a large variety of options for breakfast and lunch, and is one of the few cafes in Albany open in the late afternoon, open until 6pm. There is plenty of outside seating on the balcony, although the only views offered are over the shopping centre carpark.
Espresso One
9 Albany Hwy, Albany.
Doggy menu: No.
Water bowl: No.
Ordering: Customers need to order inside.
Espresso One is a busy and popular cafe, known for its great food and excellent service. I personally recommend their savoury muffins and scones - they have never disappointed! There is plenty of outside seating, however it is on the main street of town and a busy walkway. Espresso One is not suitable for dogs that struggle in crowds.
The Naked Bean
242 Middleton Rd, Mira Mar.
Doggy menu: No.
Water bowl: Yes.
Ordering: Customers need to order inside.
The best thing about The Naked Bean is its own locally roasted coffee - make sure to grab a bag to take home with you or gift to a coffee loving friend! The outside seating area is nice and shady in summer and has a lovely autumn vibe as the trees drop their leaves in autumn.
Due South
6 Toll Place, Albany

Doggy menu: No.
Water bowl: Yes, wait staff happy to refresh on request.
Ordering: Customers need to order inside, although wait staff happy to take order at the table.
Due South has beautiful waterside dining for lunch and dinner. There is a spacious outside area, although limited tables in the non-smoking section. More a bar than a cafe, Due South offers high end menu with large serving sizes, although great coffee and cake also available. There are nice pre or post dining walks along the waterfront, through Anzac Peace Park, or down to the boatshed with small beach area.
Fredricks
36 Peels Place, Albany.
Doggy menu: No.
Water bowl: Yes.
Ordering: Customers need to order inside, easy to see dog from counter.
Fredricks is a small cafe in the centre of town. The outside seating is a little cramped. Fredricks has the best breakfasts in town!
Bay Merchants
18 Adelaide Cres, Middleton Beach.
Doggy menu: No.
Water bowl: No.
Ordering: Customers need to order inside, easy to see dog from counter.
Bay Merchants is a busy cafe a short walk from Middleton Beach. There is limited outside seating on the walkway. Bay Merchants has excellent coffee and smoothies - I recommend the Crazy Monkey (banana smoothie with a shot of coffee).
Albany has so many great cafes, and most of them allow dogs in the outside seating areas. While they are definitely lacking in the doggy menu department, most offer at least a bowl of water and a friendly pat. Did I miss your favourite dog friendly cafe? Let me know in the comments!
